Hot wife reborn

Lin Xiaoxiao spent the next two days in a daze. Everyone thought she was just nervous—even Zhou Huai'an assumed so, repeatedly assuring her that everything would be fine and that the university professors wouldn't give her a hard time.

She couldn't explain the real reason for her anxiety, so she simply played along. "I'm just worried they might believe those rumors and reject me. That would be so unfair."

Zhou Zhennan shook his head firmly. "They won't. The fact that they came so quickly shows how much they value you as a candidate. Exceptional students are hard to come by. This isn't a bad thing—meeting the admissions team early means you might receive your acceptance letter sooner."

Lin Xiaoxiao forced a smile. "I hope you're right. Otherwise, I'll be heartbroken."

On the third day, two representatives from Peking University's admissions office arrived. Instead of visiting her home, they asked Lin Xiaoxiao to come alone to their guesthouse.

Zhou Huai'an accompanied her to the building and waited downstairs after she went up. Eventually growing uneasy, he went upstairs and waited by the stairwell.

Lin Xiaoxiao's heart was pounding. She desperately wanted to know if the Lin Wenbin inside was her brother, but she was also afraid of being disappointed.

She knocked on the door. A familiar voice answered, "Come in."

It felt like a lightning strike. That was her brother's voice—the same cool, professional tone he used at work. Her heart hammered in her chest. Her hands went weak; it took her a few tries to push the door open.

The man standing in the middle of the room looked exactly like her brother—the same refined features, the same tall, elegant stature like precious golden nanmu wood.

Every detail was identical except for his hairstyle—his hair was longer, neatly combed back—and his conservative Sun Yat-sen suit, with a pen tucked in the pocket.

Lin Xiaoxiao didn't dare assume anything. She stood frozen in the doorway, staring. How could two people look so alike? Even after her own transmigration, she only resembled her former self about seventy percent.

Lin Wenbin was also stunned. His eyes locked onto her face, then dropped to her very pregnant belly. He clenched his fists.

Suddenly, he strode over, closed the door behind her, and turned to face her. "Xiaoxiao," he said quietly. "Do you know who I am?"

Hearing his voice and seeing the familiar look in his eyes, she could no longer hold back. "Brother?"

Lin Wenbin visibly relaxed. It seemed he'd come to the right place. He guided her to sit on the edge of the bed. Almost in unison, they asked, "How did you get here?"

Realizing he probably had more information than she did, Lin Wenbin spoke first. "You were in a car accident. The doctors were about to declare you dead when your heart monitor suddenly picked up again. But when you woke up... you were different. They said it was amnesia, but it was like you were a completely different person."

"At first, we thought you were just irritable from the accident and the memory loss. But then you started throwing tantrums, breaking things, going out all the time... You were rude to Mom and Dad."

"I knew something was wrong. Amnesia might change your personality, but it doesn't erase your basic decency. So I started wondering if you'd really been replaced. I visited temples, looking for answers. I heard rumors about souls crossing between worlds. I didn't know if it was true, but I had to find out."

"That impostor was curious about everything—the TV, smartphones. She was even scared of our home robots and other smart devices. It was like she'd never seen technology before."

"But then I was in a car accident myself. When I woke up, I found her sneaking around my hospital room. I grabbed her and demanded the truth. She admitted she wasn't from our world, but she wouldn't say how she got there. She did tell me about her real family and her real name.

I didn't fully believe her at the time."

"Later, she said if I went to the yacht, she'd tell me everything."

Lin Xiaoxiao stared at her brother, tears still streaming down her face. It was exactly like what she had dreamed. But hearing that her brother had actually fallen for the original host's trick and gone to the yacht—

She looked at him like he was an idiot.

Lin Wenbin poked her forehead. "What's with that look? I didn't want Mom and Dad to worry."

Lin Xiaoxiao already knew what happened after that. What she wanted to know was how he got here. "So how did you end up in this world?"

Lin Wenbin thought for a moment. "I was thrown into the sea by the explosion. Everything went bright, and the next thing I knew, I was on a ship—a really old-fashioned one, like something out of a museum exhibit in Shanghai."

"People kept calling me 'Professor

Lin' and said I'd fallen overboard while getting some air."

He knew it wasn't a movie set. The strange setting, combined with what had happened to his sister, gave him a hunch. He decided to play along, pretending the fall had caused amnesia. He asked a few careful questions and learned what year it was—and that he was supposedly an orphaned medical expert, a leading authority in neurosurgery, who had chosen to return to China out of patriotism now that policies had relaxed.

He had no problem with serving his country—but he wasn't a brain specialist. He wasn't even a doctor. He fainted at the sight of blood. This was a disaster.

He asked about a few place names the impostor had mentioned—and they matched. So he really was in her world.

Maybe his sister was here too? cling to that hope, he decided to temporarily adopt this new identity. It might help him find her.

Then came the real shock: he hadn't possessed someone else's body. He had crossed over entirely in his own body. The real brain specialist who looked like him had probably drowned.

In Beijing, Lin Wenbin was received with high honors. He was offered a professorship at Peking University—as soon as he "regained his memory," he could begin teaching.

He had a feeling his "amnesia" was permanent. He considered declining, but then heard the national college entrance exam had been reinstated.

If his brilliant little sister hadn't done anything foolish, she would definitely take it. How else would she escape a life of poverty?

Maybe this was the easiest way to find her. If his sister took the exam, she would undoubtedly aim for Peking University. All he had to do was wait.

And then, perfectly on cue, came reports that the top-scoring student in Gansu Province had been accused of cheating.

The moment Lin Wenbin saw the name—Lin Xiaoxiao—he knew it was her. He immediately volunteered to join the investigation team.

After hearing his story, Lin Xiaoxiao didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "You faint at the sight of blood, and now you're a famous brain surgeon? What happens when they find out?"
